Sarah Ottum

K/1 Classroom Teacher

Hello! My name is Sarah Ottum, and I have lived in Anchorage for the past

26 years. I briefly moved to California in 2007, but decided that Alaska was ultimately where I wanted to make my home. My husband, Jeremy, and I have been married for three years and live in south Anchorage with our dog Boris. In our spare time we enjoy camping, hiking, traveling, and watching movies.

I graduated from the University of Alaska Anchorage with a Bachelors in Early Childhood Education in 2013. I student taught in Sharon's Family Group and was offered her position shortly after when she moved to Georgia. I dreamed of landing a job here and am grateful everyday to be surrounded by such an amazing community. I will be graduating with my Masters in Reading Education this May from East Carolina University.

My philosophy of education is that all children should be inspired to become life-long learners. My role as their teacher is to guide and support them in their inquiries and discoveries. I believe in the power of play, art, music, social learning, and hands-on activities.
